Rostmint: A Designer’s Real-World Script Amp Review
Practical Designer Notes You’ll Actually Use
- Test Rostmint in black and white first — color can mask spacing issues, but grayscale reveals true rhythm and balance.
- Check small-size readability early: try it at 10pt on a physical mockup (not just screen). Its open counters hold up better than many script fonts, but don’t assume.
- Compare uppercase and lowercase side-by-side in your layout. The lowercase has more flow; the uppercase is tighter and more structural — use them for different roles, not interchangeably.
- Review spacing carefully. Kerning is solid out of the box, but tracking may need slight tightening for headlines or loosening for inline use in editorial design.
- Test font pairing live: set a paragraph in a trusted serif font (e.g., Merriweather), then drop Rostmint in as a pull quote. Then swap in a clean sans serif font (e.g., Inter) for contrast. Finally, try it beside a true handwritten font — you’ll see why restraint matters.
- Confirm commercial licensing before any client or business use. Rostmint is a commercial font, but licensing terms vary by vendor — some include desktop + web, others require separate add-ons for digital products or printable design assets.
